Beginning on October 5, 2023, is the ICC World Cup. The preliminary squad for the renowned competition must be submitted by September 5 at the latest. The selection committee’s toughest challenge is focusing on a player for the No. 4 spot because the Men in Blue were in a similar situation in 2019.
It would be a difficult decision for the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee to choose between Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson, who lack match experience, and KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who are out of touch. In the midst of this, former India head coach Ravi Shastri recently suggested playing Virat Kohli in the No. 4 spot.
His ideas sparked a heated discussion among cricket experts, however Gautam Gambhir and other commentators opposed him. The 60-year-old has found support from AB de Villiers, though.
ABD and Virat get along well and are close both on and off the pitch. De Villiers suggested that Virat bat at No. 4 and that it would be the ideal position for the former captain of India.
On his YouTube channel, AB stated, “I have heard rumours that Virat might take up the No. 4 position, and I would be the biggest supporter for that.”
