Sukumari is an Indian actress from Kerala who mainly acts in Malayalam and Tamil films. He has been acting for more than 60 years and has played various roles. His total number of films is estimated around 2000. He is one of the most sought after actors.
He was born in Nagercoil in 1940. Sukumari was the first cousin of the Travancore sisters, Lalitha, Padmini and Ragini (their mothers are sisters). She learned dance with the sisters and mastered dance forms like Keralanadanam, Kathakali and Bharathanatyam. She went for an all-India tour with her sisters.
Sukumari was noticed by a director when she went to the sets of a film with Padmini, and she debuted in the lead role in the Tamil film Orarivu. She was married to Director A. Bheemsingh until his death when he was almost 30 years old. He acted in several Malayalam films in the later black and white era such as Chettathi, Kusruthikkuttan, Kunjali Marakkar, Thacholi Othenan, Yakshi and Karinizhal.
In her later years, she rose to fame by acting in several Priyadarshan films such as Poochakkoru Mookkuthi, Oodarathuammava Aalariam, Boeing Boeing and Vandanam. He was also seen in several films directed by Balachandra Menon as Manicheppu Thurannappol and Karyan Nissaram. In later years, she played the lead role in the film Nizhalkkuthu (2002) directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan. She has also played the role of a mother in several films in recent years. He has acted in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi films without using a dubbing artist. He died in 2013.
