Digital Desk, Kolkata. India’s star footballer Sunil Chhetri has said that if he could not win the Durand Cup, he would have felt very bad. He also said that there was a long wait of two decades to capture this title.

Chhetri’s team Bengaluru FC clinched their maiden Durand Cup title by defeating Mumbai City FC 2-1 in the final at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharathi Krirangan (VYBK) here on Sunday.

Shiva Sakthi and Brazilian Alan Costa scored for Bengaluru FC (BFC), while Apuia scored the only goal for Mumbai City FC (MCFC), which turned out to be a fine match.

Chhetri posted pictures on social media to express his happiness on winning the trophy and tweeted that winning it with the Bengaluru FC team was special.

38-year-old Chhetri tweeted, “Wait a long wait of two decades, but winning this with Bengaluru FC has been very special. It would probably have been bad for us if we had not become Durand Cup champions.

According to Wikipedia, Chhetri was born to KB Chhetri and Sushila Chhetri, an officer in the Electronics and Mechanical Engineers Corps of the Indian Army. His father played football for the Indian Army team, while his mother and his twin sisters played for the Nepal women’s national team.

Captain Chhetri also had some golden chances on Sunday, once in the 69th minute when he missed and again in the 87th when he had a face-off with the goalkeeper but was again blocked by the defenders.
