Following Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) triumph over the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Colonel Vinod Bisht, the CEO of LSG, provided an update on the injury sustained by their pace bowler Mayank Yadav during Sunday’s match.

Concerns Over Mayank Yadav’s Bowling Performance

During the match against the Gujarat Titans, anticipation was high among fans regarding Mayank Yadav’s bowling performance. Renowned for his exceptional pace, accuracy, and consistent deliveries exceeding 150 kmph, Yadav struggled to maintain his usual form during the clash with the Titans. Failing to reach his typical bowling speeds, barely touching 140 kmph, he conceded three boundaries in his only over before leaving the field due to soreness in the lower abdominal area.

Official Statement from Vinod Bisht

In an official statement, Vinod Bisht addressed Mayank Yadav’s injury, stating, “Mayank felt soreness in the lower abdominal area and as a precaution, we are managing his workload over the next week. We hope to see him soon in the field.” Consequently, Yadav will be unavailable for the upcoming matches against the Delhi Capitals and the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 12 and April 14, respectively.

Rapid Rise to Stardom

Despite his brief stint in the IPL, Mayank Yadav has made a significant impact with his exceptional pace. In the match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Yadav demonstrated his prowess by claiming three wickets in his four-over spell, conceding just 14 runs, earning him the title of ‘Player of the Match.’

At just 21 years old, Yadav has already etched his name in IPL history by becoming the first bowler to clinch the ‘Player of the Match’ award in his first two matches.

Setting Records with Lightning Speed

In his clash against RCB, Yadav reached an astonishing speed of 156.7 kmph, marking the fastest delivery in the current IPL edition and the fourth fastest in the tournament’s history. This achievement surpassed his previous record set during his debut match with the Punjab Kings, where he clocked 155.8 kmph. In his debut game, he showcased remarkable bowling skills, securing figures of 3/27 in four overs.

Future Prospects

Many pundits view Mayank Yadav as India’s next big fast bowling prospect, not only due to his speed but also his impressive accuracy and ability to intimidate batsmen, all of which have been evident in just a few matches.
