Khalistani Float at Procession: India Blasts Canada for ‘Celebration, Glorification of Violence’

NEW DELHI: India on Tuesday chastised the Justin Trudeau-led Canadian government for permitting the “celebration and Glorification of Violence,” saying that “democratic countries that respect the rule of law should not allow intimidation by radical elements in the name of freedom of expression.”

In response to media inquiries about a float in a Nagar Kirtan parade in Malton, Canada, last year, ministry of external affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “We have repeatedly raised our strong concerns regarding the violent imagery being used by extremist elements in Canada against our political leadership.”

Concerns in Canada

Last year, a float representing our former Prime Minister’s assassination was utilised in a procession. “Posters threatening violence against Indian diplomats have also been displayed across Canada,” Jaiswal said.

Glorification of Violence

“No civilised community should celebrate or glorify violence. “Democratic countries that respect the rule of law should not tolerate intimidation by radical elements in the name of free expression,” the MEA spokeswoman stated.

Government of Canada

“We remain worried about the security of our diplomatic representatives Glorification of Violence Canada and want the Government of Canada to ensure that they can carry out their duties without fear. We again call on the Government of Canada to stop assisting criminal and separatist elements
