In conjunction with this, the Gujarat Titans released eight players, including Shivam Mavi, Yash Dayal, Pradeep Sangwan, Alzarri Joseph, and Odean Smith. The departure of Hardik Pandya presents a challenge for the team, and former India fast bowler Irfan Pathan suggests that acquiring Azmatullah Omarzai could be a strategic solution for the 2022 champions.

Speaking on Star Sports, Irfan Pathan emphasized the potential suitability of the Afghanistan all-rounder, citing his impressive performance in the World Cup in India. Pathan sees Omarzai as a fitting replacement for Pandya, given his ability to contribute both with the bat and ball. Noting the need for a proper fast bowler, Pathan believes that Omarzai’s inclusion, along with the presence of Rashid Khan, could enhance the team’s balance.

IPL 2024 Auction, Following Hardik Pandya’s departure, Gujarat Titans appointed Shubman Gill as their new captain, and attention now shifts to reinforcing the squad in preparation for the upcoming season. With a substantial purse of Rs 38.15 crore, the Titans possess the highest available funds among all franchises, allowing them to secure a maximum of eight players, including two overseas players.

Azmatullah Omarzai’s rise to prominence coincided with his impactful performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, where he emerged as a key player for Afghanistan. Notably, his unbeaten 97-run innings against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad stood out, contributing significantly to Afghanistan’s total of 244 runs in that match. Throughout the tournament, Omarzai showcased his all-round capabilities, amassing 353 runs in 9 matches and taking 9 wickets. His impressive strike rate of 95.9 underscores his effectiveness in the middle order, complemented by his boundary-hitting prowess, which includes 35 fours and 18 sixes.
