The Narendra Modi-led ruling party would most likely fail to secure a simple majority in the 543-member Lok Sabha, relying on the TDP and JD(U) to form a government. Meanwhile, the Congress got 66 seats and currently leads in 33, while the JD(S), Trinamool Congress, AAP, and Samajwadi Party won 2, 16, 3, and 24 seats, respectively. Akhilesh Yadav’s stock soared when his Samajwadi Party defeated the reigning BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

In a significant upset in the Faizabad parliamentary constituency, which includes the shrine town of Ayodhya, Samajwadi Party candidate Awadhesh Prasad defeated sitting BJP MP Lallu Singh by 54,567 votes. Meanwhile, N. Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP performed well in the Lok Sabha elections, winning five seats and leading in 11 of the state’s 25 seats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi defeated Congress candidate Ajay Rai in the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh by more than 1.5 lakh votes. Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, won both Kerala’s Wayanad and Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seats by more than three lakh votes over his opponents.
