Ambati Rayudu Advocates for Dinesh Karthik’s Inclusion in T20 World Cup 2024 Squad

Dinesh Karthik

T20 World Cup, Ambati Rayudu, former Indian cricketer and a keen observer of the game, has voiced his opinion on the selection debate surrounding Dinesh Karthik for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Rayudu emphasized that Karthik’s current form in the IPL warrants serious consideration from the national selectors.

Karthik’s Spectacular Run in IPL 2024

T20 World Cup, With 226 runs amassed in 7 games at an astonishing average of 75.33 and a blistering strike rate of 205.45, Dinesh Karthik has undoubtedly been a standout performer for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. His recent innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where he scored 83 runs off 35 balls showcasing his power-hitting prowess, further solidified his case for selection.

Rayudu’s Endorsement

Rayudu, reflecting on Karthik’s career trajectory, highlighted the talented cricketer’s long-standing presence in the shadows of MS Dhoni. Despite limited opportunities on the international stage, Karthik’s innate skill and potential have never been in doubt. Rayudu believes that the T20 World Cup presents a golden opportunity for Karthik to shine on the global stage and potentially culminate his career with a triumphant moment by lifting the coveted trophy.

Speaking to Star Sports, Rayudu remarked, “From his childhood, I have seen how talented he is. He has always been in the shadow of MS Dhoni and he did not get a lot of opportunities to showcase his talent. He has a golden chance to be India’s match-winner one last time and end his career by lifting the World Cup. So, I believe that Karthik should be taken to the World Cup.”

Pathan’s Cautionary Perspective

However, amidst the growing chorus of support for Karthik’s inclusion, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan offered a tempered outlook. Pathan cautioned that the challenges awaiting Karthik in the T20 World Cup would be substantially different from those encountered in the IPL. He emphasized the heightened quality of bowling and the absence of certain IPL-specific rules, such as the Impact rule, which could potentially impact Karthik’s batting approach.

“In World Cups, you won’t see uncapped players bowling. There is no Impact rule either. Your batting becomes a little limited there and playing in that pressure is different,” Pathan remarked, underscoring the unique demands and pressures of global tournaments.

As the debate rages on, the final decision rests with the Indian selectors, who must weigh Karthik’s IPL exploits against the challenges of international competition as they assemble the squad for the highly anticipated T20 World Cup 2024.
