India captain Suryakumar Yadav has set his sights on a new milestone after leading the team to victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Following India’s historic title win, the skipper revealed that his next big ambition is to win a gold medal for the country at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Speaking after the final in Ahmedabad, Suryakumar reflected on the team’s journey during the tournament and highlighted how special the achievement has been for the entire squad.

“Obviously it has been a wonderful journey in the last one month. Though it didn’t start the way we wanted it to start but that’s part of the sport. What we have achieved as a team is right in front of you,” Suryakumar said while referring to the World Cup trophy.

The Indian captain added that while the team is celebrating the historic victory, the focus is already shifting to future goals. According to Suryakumar, winning Olympic gold in 2028 is the next big objective for the team.

Cricket Returns to the Olympics

Cricket will make its return to the Olympic Games for the first time since the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris after the International Olympic Committee approved its inclusion in the Los Angeles Games.

The Olympic cricket tournament will feature six teams in both the men’s and women’s competitions, with matches scheduled to take place between July 14 and July 29, 2028. All matches are expected to be played at the Fairgrounds Stadium in Pomona, a temporary venue located around 50 kilometres from Los Angeles.

Based on the current T20 rankings, India are among the teams likely to qualify from Asia for the Olympic tournament.

‘Everything Changed After 2024’

Suryakumar also pointed out that India’s recent dominance in white-ball cricket began after the 2024 T20 World Cup victory under former captain Rohit Sharma in Barbados.

According to the Indian skipper, the team adopted a new approach after that triumph, which transformed their performances in major tournaments.

“Everything changed post-2024. We played a different kind of cricket in that tournament and understood how this team needs to move forward,” he said.

Since that turning point, India have enjoyed remarkable success on the global stage. The team went on to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 before defending their title in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Strong Partnership with Gautam Gambhir

Suryakumar also highlighted his strong working relationship with head coach Gautam Gambhir, saying both have shared a clear vision for the team.

According to the captain, the leadership group has focused on building a confident and aggressive side capable of winning major tournaments consistently.

Focus on the Future

While India continue to celebrate their third T20 World Cup title, Suryakumar made it clear that the team’s ambitions do not stop there. With the Olympics returning to the cricket calendar and several major tournaments ahead, the Indian skipper wants the team to keep improving.

“We wanted to do something special in front of the home crowd in 2026. Now we want to continue doing that in 2027, 2028, 2029 and never stop,” he said.

With multiple ICC trophies already secured in recent years, India’s focus will now gradually shift towards the Los Angeles Olympics, where Suryakumar Yadav hopes to lead the team to another historic achievement. 🏏

According to reports by BatVibe, the Suryakumar Yadav captaincy record is rapidly becoming one of the most impressive in modern Indian cricket. His aggressive leadership style and strong partnership with head coach Gautam Gambhir have played a key role in shaping India’s recent success.

With multiple ICC titles already secured and the Olympics on the horizon, Suryakumar Yadav now aims to lead India into another historic chapter in world cricket.
