World Cup Centurions: India and Bangladesh have faced each other four times in World Cups since their first encounter in 2007 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad. In their World Cup clashes, India has emerged victorious three times, while Bangladesh won their first encounter. However, Bangladesh is yet to produce a centurion in World Cup matches against India. The highest individual score in a World Cup match for Bangladesh against India was achieved by Tamim Iqbal when he scored 70 runs in 2011 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

In contrast, India has had three centurions in their World Cup Centurions against Bangladesh:

World Cup Centurions

Virender Sehwag (2011):

In the 2011 World Cup, Virender Sehwag made a remarkable start for India by smashing a boundary off the very first ball of the match, setting the tone for India’s campaign. He went on to score 175 runs off 140 balls with 14 fours and five sixes, which was the highest individual score in ODIs between the two teams at that time. Thanks to Sehwag’s brilliant performance, India posted a total of 370 runs for the loss of four wickets and won the match by 70 runs.

Virat Kohli (2011):

In his World Cup debut in 2011, Virat Kohli became the first Indian batter to score a century on this stage. He scored 100 runs off 83 balls, including eight fours and two sixes, and played a crucial role in a massive 203-run partnership with Sehwag for the fourth wicket. This performance showcased Kohli’s potential as one of India’s greatest batters, a prediction that has since come true.

Rohit Sharma (2015, 2019):

Rohit Sharma has been a standout performer for India against Bangladesh in World Cups. In 2015, he scored 137 runs off 126 balls with 14 fours and three sixes during the quarterfinal match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He also formed a vital partnership of 122 runs with Suresh Raina, helping India secure a 109-run victory, and was named the Player of the Match. In 2019, Rohit Sharma notched up another century against Bangladesh. During this match, he had a stroke of luck when Tamim Iqbal dropped a catch when Rohit was at 10 runs. However, Rohit capitalized on this opportunity and scored 104 runs off 92 balls at Edgbaston in Birmingham. His partnership of 180 runs for the opening wicket with KL Rahul laid the foundation for India’s 28-run victory in the match.
