India captain Rohit Sharma has described his team’s 2024 T20 World Cup victory as more special than his 2007 win as a player, owing to his role as the team leader this time. The Men in Blue returned home triumphantly on Thursday, July 4, after defeating South Africa in the final.

A Grand Welcome in Delhi and Mumbai

Special arrangements were made in both Delhi and Mumbai to welcome the team. Enthusiastic fans turned out in large numbers to give a rousing reception to the World Champions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the players for a celebratory breakfast meet. Additionally, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) organized a special open-roof bus roadshow in Mumbai, allowing fans to see their favorite stars up close.

Rohit Sharma Reflects on the 2024 Triumph

In a heartfelt video released by the BCCI, which captured the emotions of both fans and players during the roadshow, captain Rohit Sharma reminisced about his first T20 World Cup win in 2007. However, he emphasized that the 2024 victory was particularly meaningful as he was leading the team. The Indian skipper expressed his joy at bringing happiness to the entire nation through their win.

“2007 was a different feeling; we started off in the afternoon, and this was in the evening. I cannot forget 2007 as it was my first World Cup. This is a little more special because I was leading the team, so it’s a very proud moment for me. You can see the excitement; it shows how much it means not just to us but also to the entire nation. It means a lot. I am very happy that we could achieve something like this for them as well,” said Rohit in the BCCI video.
