Today, the inaugural tournament’s captains and senior players from each of the six DP World ILT20 League franchises talked about it. Captain Sunil Narine represented Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ADKR), Captain Colin Munro represented Desert Vipers (DV), Captain James Vince represented Gulf Giants (GG), Captain Rovman Powell represented Dubai Capitals, senior player Dwayne Bravo represented MI Emirates (MIE), and Captain Moeen Ali represented Sharjah Warriors.
“Anything you do in T20 cricket as you know is very challenging, you just must adapt, have fun, and know it is going to be an enjoyable four to five weeks of the tournament,” ADKR Captain Sunil Narine stated prior to the tournament.
Rovman Powell stated, “I am looking to captain Dubai Capitals not just from a personal standpoint but also from a team and a franchise standpoint. I am excited to lead the Dubai Capitals in the inaugural edition of the DP World International T20 League.” It’s a good opportunity for the UAE players to show off their talent. The DP World ILT20 is a good place for them to start, so let’s hope they take advantage of this opportunity.
“I am lucky enough to play with so many of my teammates, and we are still getting to know some of them,” Gulf Giants Captain James Vince said. This evening, we have a practice game. Some of our senior players have played franchise cricket all over the world, and the younger players here are familiar with the conditions. We are looking forward to the start of the tournament. I’m looking forward to watching the teams compete against one another because each team has talented players.
“It’s important for me to pass on whatever knowledge I have about the game to my teammates and develop the next generation of cricketers,” said Dwayne Bravo, a T20 veteran who represents MI Emirates. Despite its short duration, this tournament will be fiercely competitive.
“Just look at the balance of our team, I think the challenge for me as a captain is to fit in all those remarkable players in the playing eleven,” Desert Vipers captain Colin Munro said. However, all I want is for each of my boys in our squad to enjoy playing cricket and spending time in the UAE. They will improve their cricket skills and gain a great deal from this experience, and that is all I can ask for.”
Moeen, captain of the Sharjah Warriors and winner of the ICC 2019 CWC, stated, “We’ll look to play some good cricket, and we are here to win.” We want to succeed, especially in Sharjah, our home city. We are eager to take pleasure in our cricket.
The DP World ILT20 is a professional franchise-based T20 format cricket tournament with six franchise teams and over 100 international and 24 UAE-based players competing in 34 matches. It combines two of the most compelling aspects of global sport: world-class infrastructure and the most favorable time zone for cricket fans in South Asia and other parts of the world. Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (Knight Riders Group), Dubai Capitals (GMR), Desert Vipers (Lancer Capital), Gulf Giants (Adani Sportsline), MI Emirates (Reliance Industries), and Sharjah Warriors (Capri Global) are franchise teams. The ICC has approved DP World ILT20 for a number of years. The tournament’s complete schedule can be found here.
Dubai Capitals captain Rovman Powell will continue his excellent franchise cricket form and lead the team to victory in the opening match against a world-class team that includes Joe Root and Dasun Shanaka. Along with the dependable Jonny Bairstow, the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders have the deadly T20 duo of Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. Because of their close rivalry, this match’s action is sure to captivate cricket fans worldwide. If one of these six teams wins the tournament’s opening match and earns their team a crucial victory in the DP World International T20 League, they will go down in history.
